2021 STONES No. 1

100 PTS ~ Jeb Dunnuck

All Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 1 comes from the Perrarus Block 1 on Pritchard Hill and was aged 22 months in 95% new French oak. It’s a regal, majestic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that has to-die-for aromatics of crème de cassis, graphite, smoked tobacco, and dark chocolate. These all carry to a full-bodied, powerful 2021 that has the vintage’s pure, focused mouthfeel, ripe, flawlessly balanced tannins, and incredible length on the finish. The level of class and overall seamlessness here, paired with incredible concentration and power, are something to behold. This beauty certainly tops out my scale, and while it will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age, it’s going to have a lengthy 2-3 decades of overall longevity.

Coming from the Perrarus Block 1 Las Piedras Vineyard, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 1 offers more black fruits, camphor, crushed rocks and graphite, with an almost Haut Brion-like cold fireplace character. It’s another full-bodied, seamless, layered wine from this estate that ticks all the right boxes. With building tannins, a multi-dimensional texture, thrilling purity, and a huge finish, it’s up with some of the top wines in the vintage and is an awesome, awesome wine.

The 2016 Stones No. 1 – Very deep garnet-purple, it has wonderful purity of cassis, fresh black plums and crushed blackberries notes with touches of lavender,
mocha, cigar box, underbrush and fungi plus a waft of rose hip tea. Full-bodied and firm with very finegrained tannins supporting the generous, wonderfully
vibrant fruit layers, it finishes long and perfumed.

2014 STONES No. 1

96+ PTS ~ ROBERT PARKER JR

The extraordinary 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from what is called clone 4. Loads of graphite, crushed rock, tobacco leaf, scorched earth, blackberry and blueberry fruit soar from the glass of this fat, opulent, decadently intense wine, which has low acidity, tremendous purity, and hedonistic appeal.

Absolutely perfect is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 1. The wine has that Mission Haut-Brion / Haut-Brion scorched-earth, gravelly, quarry-stone aromatics intermixed with blueberry, cassis and spring flowers. It is full-bodied with magnificent texture and concentration, stunning freshness, and a terrific finish that goes on for close to a minute. This is a surreal and compelling Cabernet Sauvignon.
